The members of MichUHCAN are ecstatic and relieved that the Supreme Court has upheld the legality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) today. It is a victory for the millions of Americans who are currently uninsured or underinsured. Today I am thinking of the many thousands of people I have met over the past 20 plus years who’ve had no access to affordable, quality health care. The ACA gave them hope. The courageous decision of the Supreme Court allows the efforts to make that hope a reality.
Our organization has worked tirelessly for the past 22 years to realize a health care system that includes everyone, is affordable, and of high quality. The ACA does not achieve all of these goals, but it is a large step in the right direction and deserves support. It would be naïve however, to think that this Supreme Court decision will end the efforts of some to repeal or undermine its implementation. There remains hard work to educate the broad public on how the legislation positively impacts not only our health, but our economy.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Mitchell
