The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is preparing to meet the new federal mandates for Medicaid, such as the new work requirements. Most Medicaid recipients will now have to work 80 hours a month in order to qualify for their benefits. Governor Whitmer attempted to fill the gap left by federal budget cuts in her budget proposal, but it was not kept by the House and Senate. Millions of Michiganders are expected to lose their benefits in the coming year.
